Vibe Coding, Easy or Hard?
So, I’ve been messing around with all these new AI coding tools lately. Everyone’s talking like they’re the future, like they’re gonna replace developers. Naturally, I had to try one out myself. I started with Replit’s AI Agent—just to see what the hype was all about.
At first? Man, I was impressed. I tossed it an idea, and in like an hour, I had a full-on UI prototype—buttons, forms, the works. It honestly felt like magic. I even got a little order notification feature working for customers. It was smooth.
But then… the next morning? It broke. Of course it did.
So I jumped back in, fixed it, tested again. Couple days later—boom, something else broke. Over and over. And those security warnings? Yeah, I definitely ignored them.
After that, I started bouncing between other tools—Cursor, Devin, WinSurf, ClineCode, RooCode, whatever. I’d watch these YouTube demos, and they make it look so easy. Stuff like, “Watch me build a social feed in ten seconds!” But when I tried? I was like, Why is this so hard?!
Turns out, most of those demos are just basic stuff—like to-do lists or contact forms. AI’s great at that because it’s seen a million of them. But real projects? That’s a different story.
Then I kept hearing about this “Task Master AI” everyone was hyped about. So I install it, binge some tutorials… same deal. Some guy flies through a demo, then hits you with, “Want the full code? Join my exclusive paid group.” Seriously?
I even reached out to the dev on X to ask for help. But… not work!
So I cloned their repo. And guess what? They’ve got hidden documentation:
architecture.md
features_integration.md
- …
Basically instructions just for the AI. And since I didn’t have those? My version flopped.
Here’s the thing: AI isn’t magic. You can’t just say, “Go wash the dishes,” and expect perfect results. You’ve gotta break it down:
“Go to the sink, turn on the tap, get the soap, scrub each dish…”
Same with code. If you don’t know how to build it, the AI’s not gonna guess for you.
After all that, the one tool I actually liked was Cursor. It just clicked. Honestly, I wish Sublime had a plugin like it. VSCode? Kinda feels clunky after this.
But even when the code’s done, real life jumps in. You still have to:
- connect APIs
- fill out forms
- write documentation
- make demo videos
- wait for approvals
AI can’t do any of that.
So what’s the verdict?
AI tools? Super helpful. If you’re lazy or burned out, they’ll seriously speed you up—maybe 10x, even 100x. But replacing developers? Nah, not yet. You still need to know what you’re doing. Still gotta learn, practice, and guide the AI.
And let’s be real—most of the job cuts? That’s the economy, not the AI.
So yeah, AI’s dope. It’ll help you level up. But if you’re asking, “Vibe Coding, Easy or Hard?”
The answer is: both. Easy if you know your stuff. Hard if you don’t.
Don’t quit your day job just yet.
P/S: I haven’t mentioned how much it costed me yet. lol
